The Christopher Pike Book Club!

Lately I've been getting kind of sad about the fact that since I'm no longer in school, I no longer get a summer vacation. AND I don't get a summer reading list, to boot! No more endless, boring summer hours with which to fill with required reading. Just work. Endless, 9 to 5 work. Sigh.

But now -- no longer! Even though I barely have time to read as it is (I read over breakfast and right before bed and ... that's pretty much it), I've decided it might make me feel a little more like those wistful reading summers of old if I just make up my OWN Summer Reading List! And stick to it! This epiphany just so happened to perfectly coincide with my resurgence of love for one of my all-time favorite authors -- Christopher Pike! Sure his books might seem a little cheesy, a little out-dated, but what better way to celebrate the hot days of summer than with 80's teen horror??

Everyone's invited! Grab a copy of the current book I'm tearing through and join me in philosophical discussion on the way! (They can be found at probably any library. I got my copies at Amazon for a penny each!) I'll be hitting up the classics in chronological order -- first up: Slumber Party!

Found this by surfing FriendsFriends... OMG, Christopher Pike. So many of these were my absolute FAVORITES as a teen. When I re-read a bunch two summers ago, I realized that the writing was pretty poor, but the plots were just as compelling as ever! Man, I think I read every one there, except for maybe "Road To Nowhere." "Master of Murder" remains, to this day, my favorite C. Pike book, followed closely by "The Midnight Club." Though the one with the creepy lizard-people scared me to death, too.

Are you going to review the books as you go along?

Hooray! I knew there were more fans out there, nice to meet you! I feel like Christopher Pike fans are hard to find -- totally different from R.L. Stine fans. CP was edgier! I felt so cool and grown up reading about teens scrambling around trying to kill each other.

Master of Murder is a great one! I'm definitely going to review each as I go, so you're welcome to join in! :)

Wow. Just wow. I never read any Pike books that I can remember. No RL Stine either. Because I knew they would creep me out. I'm so embarassing. There was one trilogy I read that I loved - not Christopher Pike, but that same genre that was so popular in middle school. I'll have to track it down.

Great idea though. Totally gonna point people at this.

I am so awesome at Google... Searched "teen horror ice game book" and it was on the first page of results. Please note that the word ice was in reference to his blue eyes and the fire of his touch. Anyway, The Forbidden Game trilogy by Lisa Smith (or LJ Smith) is awesome, and I am now going to have to buy them and re-read. Dammit.

I am happy to see that this author has successfully transformed from trashy teen horror author to trashy paranormal teen romance. Gotta keep up with the times!!!

Oh snap! I'll have to check them out after I've OD'ed on CP!

And CP isn't that scary. More cheesy and cringe-worthy. :)

Great idea, Mon. I'll swing by this col bookstore I know here and look for some Pike. I never read these kinds of books when I was a young'n so it might be fun. I launched right into Stephen Kin in 6th grade, hahaha.

Pike stuff was always pretty racy... the Fear Street Books were about as raunchy as Archie comics, but I remember the Pike books as being sex-sex-sex-monster-sex. Not that seventh grade me minded, of course.
